Killer of GUS winner, Hector Joberteh confesses, reveals how they only got boxers and N7k

A robbery suspect, Mr. Ismail Adeyemi, yesterday confessed that late Gulder Ultimate Search 3, Hector Jobarteh, was killed because the gang was desperate to get some money from him.

NewTelegraphonline reports that Adeyemi, said he and his gang members, KK and Nonso, only wanted to rob and collect Hector’s money, but their trigger-happy partner, KK, shot the star dead.

Recollecting how Hector was killed and his father shot, Adeyemi explained that they were driving around, scouting for whom to rob, when they sighted Hector in his red car, driving into a close that leads into the estate at Oko-Oba, where he lived.

Acting on a hunch that they would get money from him, KK, the leader of the gang, ordered that they should tail Hector’s car. Before they could catch up, Hector had driven into his compound, unknowingly confusing the robbers.

They sighted a woman and told her that they were looking for a red car that sped off after bashing their car. The woman innocently pointed to Hector’s compound.

The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Mr Imohimi Edgal, explained that Adeyemi was the prime suspect.

He disclosed that Adeyemi, a former filling station attendant at Apapa Wharf area of Lagos, pulled the trigger that killed Hector and landed his father in the hospital.

However, dpeaking with journalists yesterday, Adeyemi vehemently denied the police allegation that he killed Hector and shot his father.

I was not the person that shot Hector; it was my friend, KK, who shot him. I even quarrelled with him for shooting the guy. It was KK that led the robbery operation. When I asked why he shot Hector, he said that Hector wanted to grab him, possibly to struggle with him. I reminded him that our agreement was to only rob people and collect their valuables, not to kill. KK got angry and threatened to shoot me. In fact, he even pointed the gun at me. We met a woman inside the compound and asked her the flat that Hector entered, but she refused to cooperate. It was at that point that KK brought out the gun and threatened to shoot her. She was scared and took KK upstairs. I was downstairs with Nonso when we heard gunshots. KK called us to come upstairs. We got upstairs and discovered that KK had shot Hector and his father. KK first shot the father and later shot Hector when he came to know what was happening. We snatched Hector’s bag and phone and left. When we opened the bag, we found only a pair of shoes, boxers and flower. I took his phone.

Adeyemi said he gave the phone to his younger brother who sold the phone for N7,000 at the Ikeja Computer Village. According to him, he gave the brother N2,000 while he pocketed N5,000.

Policemen had initially tracked Hector’s stolen phone to the Computer Village.

They arrested the trader who bought the phone and later used him as bait to catch Adeyemi. KK and Nonso are still at large. Adeyemi explained that he joined robbery after he met Nonso at Apapa and became friends with him.

He said that Nonso introduced him to KK.

I have done two operations with the gang. The second operation was at Oko- Oba; that was the day KK killed Hector. Even on that day, Nonso and KK were speaking Igbo language. I didn’t understand what they were saying. When we got there, two of them also spoke with one lady who directed them to the house of the guy. We were three that went for the operation. When I went to meet KK with the guy, they were arguing. I don’t know what they were arguing about because they both were speaking in Igbo language. We took his hand bag and found only boxers and shoes. There was no money.

Edgal said that the suspect led operatives to Gas Line, Ijoko at Sango where his operational pistol with nine rounds of live ammunition was recovered adding that Adeyemi confessed to the crime and admitted to other various criminal activities within the state.

Read Pres. Buhari’s 57th independence anniversary speech to Nigerians

President Muhammadu Buhari addressed Nigerians earlier this morning in a detailed speech during a live broadcast to mark our 57th independence anniversary.

Read it below:

My dear Nigerians, October 1st remains a special date for all Nigerians as this marks the day when we attained one of the most precious of human desires freedom.

Over the years the country has gone through trials and tribulations, but October 1st is always a day for celebrations.
It is a day for thanks giving, reflection and re-dedication.
It is also a day for remembrance. We should remind ourselves of the recent journey from 1999 – 2015, when our country happily returned to democratic rule.
However, in spite of oil prices being an average of $100 per barrel and about 2.1m barrels a day, that great piece of luck was squandered and the country’s social and physical infrastructure neglected.
We were left with no savings and huge infrastructure deficit.
The APC Government’s Campaign rallying cry to restore security, re-balance the economy and fight corruption was not all rhetoric. The country must first be secured. The economy must be re-balanced so that we do not depend on oil alone. We must fight corruption which is Nigeria’s Number One Enemy. Our Administration is tackling these tasks in earnest.
In the past two years, Nigeria has recorded appreciable gains in political freedom. A political Party at the Centre losing elections of State Governor, National Assembly seat and even State Assemblies to the opposition parties is new to Nigeria. Added to these are complete freedom to associate, to hold and disseminate opinions. Such developments clearly attest to the country’s growing political development. But like all freedoms, this is open to abuse.
Recent calls on re-structuring, quite proper in a legitimate debate, has let in highly irresponsible groups to call for dismemberment of the country. We can not and we will not allow such advocacy.
As a young Army Officer, I took part from the beginning to the end in our tragic civil war costing about 2m lives, resulting in fearful destruction and untold suffering. Those who are agitating for a re-run were not born by 1967 and have no idea of the horrendous consequences of the civil conflict which we went through.
I am very disappointed that responsible leaders of these communities do not warn their hot-headed youths what the country went through. Those who were there should tell those who were not there, the consequences of such folly.
At all events, proper dialogue and any desired constitutional changes should take place in a rational manner, at the National and State Assemblies. These are the proper and legal fora for National debate, not some lop-sided, un-democratic body with pre-determined set of objectives.
Government is keeping up the momentum of dialogue with stakeholders in the Niger Delta to keep the peace. We intend to address genuine grievances of the communities. Government is grateful to the responsible leadership of those communities and will pursue lasting peace in the Niger Delta.
On security, Nigerians must be grateful to our gallant Armed Forces for rolling back the frontiers of Boko Haram’s terrorism, defeating them and reducing them to cowardly attacks on soft and vulnerable targets.
Nigeria is grateful to its neighbours and the international community for the collective efforts to defeat this world-wide menace of terrorism.
Not even the most organized and most equipped police and security forces in the world can escape the menace of modern day terrorism, as we have seen in recent years in Europe and other parts of the world.
But we are not letting up. Our Armed Forces in an effort to enhance the operational capability of troops of OPERATION LAFIYA DOLE have established Mobile Strike Teams in the North East. These will ensure the final push to wipe out the remnants of Boko Haram.
In addition, through targeted air strikes most of the leadership and identified logistics bases and routes of the insurgents have been neutralized. The Armed Forces have established a Naval presence in the Lake Chad Basin as part of the coordinated military efforts to curtail the movements or re-emergence of the sect in the area.
Government is working round the clock to ensure release of the remaining Chibok girls, as well as other persons in Boko Haram captivity. Government will continue to support the Armed Forces and other security agencies to fight not only terrorism, but kidnapping, armed robberies, herdsmen/farmers violence and to ensure peace, stability and security in our country.
With respect to the economy, the Government has remained pro-active in its diversification policy. The Federal Government’s agricultural Anchor Borrowers Programme, which I launched in November 2015, has been an outstanding success with:
· N43.92 billion released through the CBN and 13 participating institutions,
· 200,000 small holder farmers from 29 states of the federation benefitting,
· 233,000 hectares of farmland cultivating eight commodities, namely Rice, Wheat, Maize, Cotton, soya-beans, Poultry, Cassava and Groundnuts, in addition to fish farming.
These initiatives have been undertaken in close collaboration with the states. I wish to commend the efforts of the Governors of Kebbi, Lagos, Ebonyi and Jigawa States for their support to the rice and fertilizer revolutions.
Equally commendable are contributions of the Governors of Ondo, Edo, Delta, Imo, Cross River, Benue, Ogun, Kaduna and Plateau States for their support for the Presidential initiative for palm oil, rubber, cashew, cassava, potatoes and other crops.
With the abundance of rainfall last year and this year, agriculture has enjoyed Divine intervention.
Since December last year, this Administration has produced over 7 million 50Kg bags of fertilizer. Eleven blending plants with a capacity of 2.1 million metric tons have been reactivated. We have saved $150 million in foreign exchange and N60 billion in subsidy. Fertilizer prices have dropped from N13,000 per 50Kg bag to N5,500.
Furthermore, a new presidential initiative is starting with each state of the Federation creating a minimum of 10,000 jobs for unemployed youths, again with the aid of CBN’s development finance initiatives.
Power remains a huge problem. As of September 12th, production of power reached an all — time high of 7,001 Megawatts. Government is increasing its investment, clearing up the operational and financial log jam bedeviling the industry. We hope to reach 10,000 Megawatts by 2020.
Key priorities include better energy mix through solar and Hydro technologies. I am glad to say that after many years of limbo, Mambilla Power Project has taken off.
Elsewhere in the economy the special window created for manufacturers, investors and exporters, foreign exchange requirements has proved very effective. Since April, about $7 billion has come through this window alone. The main effect of these policies is improved confidence in the economy and better investment sentiments.
The country has recorded 7 consecutive months of lower inflation, Naira rate is beginning to stabilize, appreciating from N525 per $1 in February this year to N360 today. Broad-based economic growth is leading us out of recession.
Furthermore, in order to stabilize the polity, the Federal Government gave additional support to states in the form of:
· State Excess Crude Account loans,
· Budget Support Facility,
· Stabilization Fund Release
to states and local governments as follows:
· N200 billion in 2015
· N441 billion in 2016
· N1 trillion in 2017
Altogether totaling N1.642 trillion.
This was done to enable states to pay outstanding salaries, pensions and small business suppliers who had been all but crippled over the years.
In addition, the Government’s current N500 billion Special Intervention Programme is targeting groups through;
· Home Grown School Feeding Programme,
· N-Power Job creation to provide loans to small-scale traders and artisans,
· Conditional Cash Transfer,
· Family Homes Fund and
· Social Housing Scheme.

Fellow Nigerians,
We are fully aware that fighting corruption was never going to be a straightforward task. We expected corrupt elements to use any weapon to fight back, mainly judicial obstruction and political diversion. But we are determined to eradicate corruption from our body politic.
In this fight, the Government has:
· Empowered teams of prosecutors,
· Assembled detailed databases,
· Accelerated the recovery of stolen funds.
The Administration’s new institutional reforms include:
· Enforcing Treasury Single Account,
· Whistle-Blowers Policy,
· Integrated Payroll Personnel and Information System.
We have signed multi-lateral cooperation agreements on criminal matters with friendly countries. There are signs of increasing cooperation from the Judiciary. Recently the Chief Justice of Nigeria directed Heads of all our Courts of first instance and Appeal to accelerate hearings of corruption cases and dismiss any judicial officers found to have been compromised.
Justice Salami has just been appointed to chair the Judiciary’s anti-graft committee. Government expects a lot from this Committee.
I commend the National Assembly for refocusing on its oversight committees. They should, in addition, ensure swift passage of enabling corruption laws. But fighting corruption is a bottom to top operation. I call on all Nigerians to combat corruption at every turn. By not asking for and refusing to accept a bribe, by reporting unethical practices or by blowing a whistle, together we can beat corruption. The government for its part will work for accountability at all levels – Federal, State and Local Governments. CHANGE will then be real.
As we enter the second half of our term of office, we intend to accelerate progress and intensify our resolve to fix the country’s challenges and problems.
Thank you and a happy holiday to all of you.
God bless our country

BREAKING: ASUU suspends strike action

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has called off its strike which began five weeks ago.

The suspension which is only for six weeks will have members returning to the classes with effect from today, September 19.

The ASUU President, Prof. Biodun Ogunyemi, who addressed newsmen after signing a renegotiated agreement with the Federal Government at the Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment, tagged “Memorandum of Action,” yesterday, expressed hope that government would implement it religiously. He warned that the union should not be blamed if government failed to implement all aspects of the agreement by the end of October this year.

He expressed gratitude to government for the painstaking negotiations that spanned about one month.

ASUU commended Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu, who, he said, broke a record as “the first public officer to have ever openly voiced out that something went wrong on this matter.”

Labour Minister, Senator Chris Ngige said the parties agreed on many issues, including funding for revitalisation of public universities, earned allowances,  running of university staff schools and exemption of universities in the Treasury Single Account (TSA) regarding grants, endowment funds and some others.

He also praised ASUU for its patriotism, “not just seeking their own welfare but decent work environment for optimal performance.” Ngige assured that the present administration was a government change, hence it will comply with the agreement.

BREAKING: IPOB declared as a terrorist organisation in Nigeria

The Nigerian military has announced that the pro-Biafra separatist group, Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), is a “terrorist organisation.” The military made the declaration today, September 15 in a statement by her Director of Defence Information, John Enenche.

There have been serious clashes between soldiers on a military operation and IPOB members in Abia State which left several people wounded and some dead, particularly IPOB members but none has been confirmed.

In his statement, Major-General Enenche listed reasons the military considered for labelling IPOB a terror group which includes:

The formation of a Biafra Secret Service, claimed formation of Biafra National Guard, unauthorised blocking of public access roads; extortion of money from innocent civilians at illegal road blocks, and militant possession and use of weapons (stones, molotov cocktails, machetes and broken bottles among others) on a military patrol on 10 September 2017.

The military’s full statement read below:

1. The Independent People of Biafra (IPOB) group which has posed to be a security challenge in the Country, has been metamorphosing from one stage to the other. After due professional analysis and recent developments, it has become expedient, to notify the general public that; the claim by IPOB actors that the organization is non-violent is not true. Hence, the need to bring to public awareness the true and current state of IPOB. In this regard, some of their actions, clandestinely and actively, that has been terrorising the general public among others include;

a. The formation of a Biafra Secret Service.

b. Claimed formation of Biafra National Guard.

c. Unauthorised blocking of public access roads.

d. Extortion of money from innocent civilians at illegal road blocks.

e. Militant possession and use of weapons (stones, molotov cocktails, machetes and broken bottles among others) on a military patrol on 10 September 2017.

f. Physical confrontation of troops by Nnamdi Kanu and other IPOB actors at a check point on 11 September 2017 and also attempts to snatch their rifles.

g. Attack by IPOB members, on a military check point on 12 September 2017, at Isialangwa, where one IPOB actor attempted to snatch a female soldier’s rifle.

2. From the foregoing, the Armed Forces of Nigeria wishes to confirm to the general public that IPOB from all intent, plan and purpose as analysed, is a militant terrorist organisation. Therefore, parents and particularly unsuspecting residents of the South East and other Nigerians should advice their wards to desist from joining the group.

3. The Defence Headquarters restates its commitment to handling all the security challenges in the Country and further assures all Nigerians of the protection of lives and property.

‘Nnamdi Kanu is a god, he created me, everybody should worship him’ – Facebook user

As the struggle for Biafra persists, some staunch members have pledged their unwavering support to the man at the forefront of it all, Nnamdi Kanu.

In a bid to praise him, some have even declared that he is the ‘messiah’, some say he healed them but now this Facebook user is saying that Nnamdi Kanu is a god, the one that created him.

Udummiri Nwakalu, is the same guy that went viral for tearing and chewing the Bible on Facebook live video while denouncing God.

Nwakalu wrote on Facebook, stating that whosoever does not deem it fit to worship Kanu is not just a coward, but a fool as well.

Brave men worship our leader Nnamdi Kanu, fools worship other nonsense. Our leader is God, the one who created me. If you don’t like him, delete me from your list.

Man mourns late friend who got pregnant for a Nigerian politician

A Nigerian man identified as Amb Dion Osagie has narrated how his friend, Tanasha Isibo was impregnated by a politician in Edo state after he brought her to Nigeria.

The man who was paying tribute to his late friend who died from kidney disease today explained that both of them came to Nigeria four years ago from America and decided to start a Human Hair business since they perceived it to be a booming business.

Osagie further revealed that they went around for interviews and visited Nigerian elites who could help them give awareness to the business but things suddenly changed when they met some politicians like Eseohe Adams who was a former executive director to Adams Oshiomhole.

He claimed that the alleged politicians confused Tanisha and labeled him a bad friend which eventually led to them loosing touch, only for him to find out later that she was pregnant and moved back to the United States.

Man mourns late friend who got pregnant for a Nigerian politician

Read his full post below:

I met Tanisha who is an American in Austin Texas. She was very passionate about Nigeria and wanted to us invest together in hair making factory which was a great idea.

I brought her to Benin City 4 years ago where we had a plan in creating this factory in Edo to create jobs. We felt that the human hair business was a billion dollar business and we could tap into the market.

We visited the former SSG professor Julius Ihonvbere who also lived and worked in Austin Texas before moving to Nigeria to share some of this ideas with him. Off course politicians never take investors seriously. He didn’t give us the link we needed. Visited Elizabeth Ativie, Madams Ronke and others movers & shakers.

I took her to ITV and other media platform for interviews. Everything was going successful until i introduced her to shady politicians like Eseohe Adams who was a former executive director to Adams Oshomole and the GANI family who was an Aide to Oshomole. They confused her and labeled me as a bad guy who do not have the capacity to invest but scam her and killed her dreams, before I knew it, my friend Tee will not tell me her whereabouts anymore. She will ride in conveys with the GANI’s to Auchi for political occasions and other places.

Sadly at the end, she got pregnant here in Nigeria and I am very sure to one of the Edo politicians and finally moved back to the US. Today she is dead. Truly, she is a great person. This particular picture to your left was taken inside one of my vehicle in Benin on our way to an interview on ITV. May your soul rest in peace my dear friend until we meet again!!

Exposed! New method used by criminals to steal money from bank accounts

New method used by criminals to steal money from bank accounts

With the advent of mobile banking and now use of USSD codes, transferring money from one bank account to the other has become very easy and convenient.

But now, there is a disadvantage as criminals have now devised a means to steal from people using the USSD code method.

An Instagram user who fell victim recently narrated his ordeal, explaining his surprise at how his money disappeared from his account when they only stole his phone.

He wrote:

 Just a week ago, I boarded a bus at Obanikoro heading for Costain/Orile, highlighted at Ojuelegba, on getting past the traffic light, I became conscious of the fact that my phone was missing. I dialed my number and it kept ringing & ringing till it was switched off. I kept faith and was hoping for a possible reunion but that was the biggest mistake of my life.

Later in the day I dialed my number and it rang, I was glad thinking the fellow had removed my sim from my phone and inserted it into another phone just to get to me but after 3 trials without picking, switched off was all I heard (my android phone is passworded, so its either my phone was formatted or sim inserted into another phone that made the ringing possible after it was switched off prior to this time, I should have known). Then I became worried but still kept faith, stupidest mistake.

While in a bus heading home, I decided to use the phone of the passenger who was right next to me so as to tell my parents I’m phoneless cos they’d be worried for sure, only for me to be told he faced similar situation & had his account emptied using his number, then it dawned on me that they could have been transacting at the time my phone was ringing that evening.

I got home & ran to the nearest ATM machine, on seeing my balance my face dropped, they had emptied my account. Didn’t know when I bursted into tears, seeing yourself loose money you worked hard for to a total stranger is not what I will wish even an enemy. I wept at that ATM stand for almost 20mins till I was able to gather strength home, I thank God for taking me home cos I still don’t get how I crossed that Ikorodu Expressway seeing 2 oncoming heavily loaded tankers barefooted.

I’m not afraid of starting all over but I’m just scared someone else might not take it as light as I did.

So I’m using this medium to bring everyone to alertness. Be conscious of your phone!!! How they did the transaction I have no single idea and if you are using @gtbank you sure need to double up.

Probably if I’d read or was aware of such occurrences, would have just blocked my account & number immediately.

A follower of his commented, and revealed how they were able to empty his bank account using his mobile phone.

Apple unveil the all new iPhone X with mindblowing features, worth over N300k (PHOTOS)

Latest iPhone X with mindblowing features, worth over N300k

Global gadgets company, Apple has announced the latest addition to its products, the iPhone X which is actually pronounced “iPhone 10”.

Latest iPhone X with mindblowing features, worth over N300k

The new phone, coming ten years after the launch of their first iPhone, was introduced in addition to its new products, the iPhone 8 & 8s during an event that held yesterday.

The iPhone X  features a new 5.8-inch OLED display that’s more colorful than the LCD screens Apple used in their earlier iPhones. Apple is branding it the “Super Retina Display.” The screen runs almost top to bottom and side to side, too, something Apple has never done before.

Latest iPhone X with mindblowing features, worth over N300k

Apple said OLED displays come with trade-offs compared with its Retina Displays, but that its Super Retina Display supports high dynamic range, offers the best color accuracy on the market and 3-D Touch support.

There’s no longer a home button. You swipe up from the bottom of the screen to return home. That gesture also allows a user to multitask — swipe up and pause, and you can multitask. Users can also switch between apps by swiping along the bottom of the screen, too. Users can call up Siri by saying “Hey Siri” or by pressing the side button.
Since there’s no home button, Touch ID no longer exists on the front of the phone. Apple will allow users to unlock the iPhone X with a new feature called Face ID. Apple uses an infrared camera, a front camera and other sensors to first record and then detect a user’s unique face.

Latest iPhone X with mindblowing features, worth over N300k

When you look at your iPhone, it will detect your face and will automatically unlock, even in the dark. Apple says it uses neural networks to create a mathematical model of your face and then compares that in real time, invisibly, to make sure it’s actually you. The A11 Bionic chip has a built-in neural engine to process your face.

You can’t spoof Face ID with photographs or even professionally made masks, which it said it had folks in Hollywood design to help enhance security. The phone won’t unlock if your eyes are closed or if you’re looking away.
Apple said Touch ID is the gold standard for consumer protection and that there’s a 1 in 50,000 chance that someone can randomly unlock your iPhone with their fingerprint but with Face ID, it’s now 1 in a million. It also works with Apple Pay, you just look at it to authenticate, use third-party apps such as Mint, 1Password and E-Trade.

Face ID can be used to create special 3-D emojis that share similar facial reactions to you. The feature is called Animoji, and you can control them with your face thanks to its ability to map more than 50 facial muscles. Animoji can be sent inside the Messages app.

Like the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus, the iPhone X supports wireless charging and is water-resistant.
The iPhone X has dual 12-megapixel sensors just like in the iPhone 8 Plus and a newer telephoto lens that lets in more light. The front and rear cameras support portrait mode, which allows users to take professional-looking photos by blurring the background. It also has dual optical image stabilization for both lenses, which helps prevent blur while moving and in low-light. A new Quad LED True Tone flash also improves pictures shot in the dark.
The iPhone X will be available in space gray and silver colours.

Models with 64 GB and 256 GB will be available, starting at $999 with orders rolling in from October 27 and shipments, November 3.

I remember telling someone her shoot was Gods gift to me .. she brought it all to me .. beauty in the purest form and the oil of Joy in Isaiah 61..I was so inspired and lifted .. it also helped me put what I do into proper perspective .. that its really not about me and my gift .. that the people I get to meet, bond with and photograph are Gods gift to me. Mrs Disu sent me prayers .. bible verses and inspiring write-ups every day after taking her photographs .. she also sent a beautiful thank you note when she got her photos .. and found time to send gifts to the beauty squad she met at the shoot. It was her birthday last sunday .. her daughter told me she was so happy .. she also did something really strange .. she kept sending her portraits to every one she knew .. “she was up till the wee hours of the next morning sending out the photos .. and laughing .. we kept teasing her about it but she wouldn’t stop”. She died later on that day .. I guess it was her way of saying goodbye. I remember @freezeedah sending me news of her passing .. I was a mess .. I was shocked ..and disappointed ..she was meant to beat this .. she had changed the narrative ..she told me herself .. ! I didn’t understand it .. until I got to spend a few hours with her children two days ago. They described what her last days were like .. she way joyful.. peaceful .. she found her own way to say goodbye .. she was ready. As I sat in her Wake keeping today and listened to person after person come out and testify about her beautiful spirit and how she lived everyday to the fullest .. I also remember certain things she said to me during the shoot .. how she wanted her children to know she gave it EVERYTHING and did her very best. It occurred to me .. she was right .. she did ‘beat this thing ‘ .. !she didn’t let it stop her from living .. till she took her last breath ..she lived and loved and laughed and smiled till the very end !! She was ready ..She was prepared .. unfortunately most people don’t get that opportunity .. to prepare for eternity .. and say goodbye. It got me thinking .. if we all lived 100 years more .. it still would go by really fast .. the Bible says our lives are live vapor.. eternity is certain and every day is one day closer to when we meet our maker .. but are we ready .. that’s the question. Goodbye Mrs Disu meeting you was wonderful .#LIFE

Akwa Ibom priest who abandoned the catholic church launches his own ministry

As expected, the Nigerian priest, Patrick Henry Edet who recently resigned from the Catholic Church in Nigeria, has officially launched his own prophetic ministry in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.
Patrick Edet, while serving in the catholic Diocese of Uyo, ran a ‘Pentecostal-styled’ fellowship called Grace Family Outreach within the catholic structure and now, he is continuing with it without the barriers of the catholic church.

Mr. Edet, who had been a Catholic priest for more than 11 years, stunned the Catholic community in Akwa Ibom when he announced on a live radio programme on August 2 that he was leaving the Catholic Church to live his life as an independent cleric.

The Catholic Church later responded by stripping him of the rights and privileges enjoyed by priests and also barred Catholics from associating with him.

Notwithstanding, there has been excitement in Uyo over the recent launch of Mr. Edet’s ministry.
Some catholic members have even been attending the programme, despite warnings from the Catholic Bishop of Uyo Diocese, John Ayah, that any catholic member who attends his programme or identifies with him (Mr Edet) in any way “does so at the risk of his or her Catholic faith and membership.”

Mr. Edet on September 1 launched a “mega revival” programme in Uyo, using his outreach.
The eight-day programme, which he tagged “The Great Awakening”, is currently holding in a city hall and has been attracting large crowds daily.

He has also erected billboards at strategic locations within the city to announce the programme which is his first major public outing since he quit the Catholic Church in August.
A member of the outreach, who gave his name simply as Chukwuemeka, told Premium Times on telephone that Mr. Edet would be holding subsequent meetings in the city hall.
He didn’t, however, say how often the meetings would take place.

On Saturday, during the second day of the church programme, several people defied the heavy rainfall to attend his programme.

Somevpolice officers were also deployed to guard the congregation during the programme.

Exposed! What Nigerian senators receive as monthly and yearly salaries

Chairman of the Presidential Advisory Committee Against Corruption, Professor Itse Sagay says information he has gathered, shows that every senator in Nigeria collects N29 million as monthly salary and N3 billion per annum.

Sagay disclosed this when he spoke at the Nigerian Society of International Law (NSIL) Public Lecture titled  “The Many Afflictions of Anti-Corruption Crusade in Nigeria” in Lagos on Thursday September 6th.

From the information I have gathered, a Nigerian Senator earns about N29 million a month and over N3 billion a year.

The comprehensive breakdown of the salary of the senators given by Professor Sagay amounted to  N3, 264, 329, 264.10 per annum.

The breakdown of the salary of N29 million naira per month is as follows:

Basic Salary N2, 484, 245.50;
Hardship allowance, N1,242, 122.70;
Constituency allowance N4, 968, 509.00;
Furniture allowance N7, 452, 736.50;
Newspaper allowance N1, 242, 122.70;
Wardrobe allowance, N621,061.37;
Recess allowance N248, 424.55;
Accommodation N4,968,509.00;
Utilities N828,081.83;

Leave Allowance N248,424.55;
Severance Gratuity N7, 425,736.50
Motor Vehicle Allowance, N9, 936,982.00.

Sagay expressed his reservations about young people vying for political office, stating that most politicians are greedy and very corrupt and the younger a politician is, the more corrupt he turns out to be.

One common thread that runs through the attitude of recent politicians borders on greed, avarice, self-service, and accumulation of wealth at the expense of the country. Why the rush? A young politician who wants to run at 25 will still become 30, it is just a matter of five years. Why can’t they wait to run? Most politicians are just consumed by greed and the younger they get, the corrupt they become.
